Tips In Packing & Loading Your Caravan

There has been an excellent method of loading a caravan. This is a contentious topic. There are many competing stories. Apache Caravans would like to tell the truth. We will give you our best advice on how to pack and manufacture caravans that are safest.

Before we move on to the next, let me just say this. Experience is the key to achieving the perfect weight balance for a caravan. Apache Caravans is a family-owned and operated business that produces niche and bespoke Caravans. We are also avid caravan owners and this shows in our safe, clever and innovative designs. It really does make a difference!

Axle Positioning:

Based on the 30/70 rule, an axle should be placed at the best possible place. The 30/70 rule states that an axle should be placed approximately 30% away from the caravan’s back and 70% away from the front tow hook point. The caravan will be easier to reverse if it is 30/70.

Pack centrally:

As much as possible, caravans should have all heavy items placed astride or close to the axle when manufacturing them. Apache Caravans have items such as refrigerators, hot water systems, batteries, and water tanks that are placed on or around the caravan’s axle position.

Load low:

It is essential to keep heavy items low in the caravan. It makes perfect sense to keep the centre of gravity low and secure the caravan’s foundation (the strongest part). This is it!

The perfect balancing act:

…. is one of the most common misconceptions about towing. Towing is often misunderstood. Your heavy items should be placed around your axle. All of your items should become lighter the farther they are stored or stacked. Don’t store heavy items in the back of your caravan or high up in cabinets.

Weight of the Tow Ball:

The majority of caravans have a trunk storage area on the front drawbar. This area is a prime spot for weight accumulation. As you can see, common sense plays a key role here. The tow ball weight, i.e. if there were scales under the tow hitch, should not exceed 10% of the overall caravan weight. Apache Caravansr Caravans believes it should range from 7% to 10%.
