Although caravanning holidays can be fun for everyone, you shouldn’t forget your fire safety knowledge. No matter if you’re in a house or a caravan, fires can happen at any moment and any place. It is important to know how to protect your family and yourself.
Before you leave, make sure you do the following to ensure your caravan is ready for use:
- All gas equipment in your caravan has been tested, and is in excellent working order
- Make sure to check the expiry date of your fire extinguisher. These are included as standard equipment when you purchase a Apache caravan.
- You can test the smoke alarm (they are standard equipment on Supreme vans).
- When towing the caravan, or when the engine is running, make sure the pilot lights are off
- Make sure all travellers are aware of the emergency escape plan.
You can do more to make sure your caravan is safe once you reach your holiday destination.
- Stay informed about the fire restrictions and weather conditions in the area where you’re staying
- Choose a location for your caravan that is free from flammable vegetation such as long grass.
- You should ensure that your caravan is at least five metres from other campers. This will allow you to escape in case of an emergency.
- To prevent your cooking from getting overheated, ensure that you always have someone to watch it.
Prevention is key! These simple steps will help you avoid fire hazards so that you can enjoy your holiday.
