After setting up camp at your new stopover location, the next best thing is to sit down and relax with some hearty tucker. Seasoned caravan folk will already have a myriad of choices dancing in their mind, but for those who want a quick list of ideas, we can assist.
Whether you’ve got an off road, family, luxury, or touring caravan, there are many cuisines to be created. Another bonus, you don’t need to be a MasterChef!

Tacos and Burritos
Mexican anyone? Tacos, burritos, or Mexican wraps, are all easy options for those looking for a quick tasty meal. The beauty of tacos is that you can create them exactly how you desire.
Ingredients you will need:
- Mince Beef or Chicken Mince or Chicken Thigh Fillets (or vegetarians can utilise mixed beans, or vegetarian meat products)
- Seasoning (depending on what sort dish you’re serving)
- Onion, Tomato, Capsicum
- Taco Shells or Soft Burrito Wraps
Depending on how you like your tacos and burritos will determine what salad ingredients you include, what base meat and the seasoning type. You will find all your ingredients in one grocery aisle, apart from the meat.
Cooking time should only take about 20 -25 minutes with preparation only about 10 minutes.
Many will agree that tacos and burritos are an easy choice for caravan cooking. Many off road caravans, luxury caravans, and touring caravans will be equipped with the right cooking appliances.

Sausages + Macaroni
Sausages – the great Australian BBQ staple. However, instead of simply sausages and bread, why not mix it up with some cheesy macaroni? We’re not too sure of how popular sausages and macaroni is amongst Australian households at this current time, but it’s certainly a simple dish to serve up. Although, some may find the art of macaroni a little bit tricky to cook if it’s the first time. If you want to make the dish easier again, then we suggest buying a macaroni packet mix.
Ingredients you will need:
- Dried Macaroni Pasta
- Cheese ( you can use a few different cheese types)
- Butter /Milk/ Evaporated Milk (depending on the recipe you choose to follow)
- Sausages (choose your type – herb or gourmet sausages are always a good choice combined with macaroni)
Cooking this recipe in your off road caravan, luxury caravan, or touring caravan, should be a straight-forward process. It will take about 20 minutes to create both and cook up the entire meal. Approximately an extra 15 minutes if you’re making your macaroni from scratch. Cooking time is very dependent on preparation and the chef – we’re not all Jamie Oliver who can whip up a meal in minutes!

Meat Skewers – Any Way
If you love to utilise your caravan BBQ, meat skewers are a fine choice for your evening meal. You can also cook these on the stovetop if you don’t have a BBQ and you’re not set-up within a caravan park.
What’s great about meat skewers (or even vegetable skewers) is the opportunity to mix and match your ingredients, with no real set recipe at all. With summer now officially in session, these are perfect! Any type of skewer on the BBQ can be the tastiest choice and quite a refreshingly light option with the right ingredients.
Here are some of the skewer options available to you, with our personal favourite the chorizo and haloumi skewers!

BBQ Corn Cobs
Not exactly a meal, but certainly a great BBQ side, or snack. Not everyone enjoys the juicy crunch of corn on a cob, but those who enjoy this popular vegetable, nothing beats cooking it on the BBQ or grill.
Time and time again we’re warned about the lack of nutritional value associated with this tasty vegetable, but this doesn’t faze those of us who love the taste. There’s a reason we see corn on the cob sold at countless festivals and events, it’s simple to cook for any crowd.
Ingredients you will need:
- Corn
- Butter
Yep, that ingredients list was fruitful indeed!
When you’re next touring in your off road caravan and need a sprinkle of sustenance, this could be your answer! Just make sure you buy some nice fresh corn.
Frittatas
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and one of the tastiest options for the morning is a frittata. Many people find the frittata to be a great dish in which to utilise leftover ingredients, or elements of a previous meal. Not only can frittatas be amazing in the morning, but can be enjoyed in the evening, or for any meal.
You can throw in everything from leftover onions, meats, veggies, and cheeses.
What you will need:
- Eggs
- Oil
- All your chosen mixture ingredients.
Possible inclusions:
- Bacon
- Mushrooms
- Potato (normal and sweet potato)
- Tomato
- Onion
- Feta
